The trend of glamping in Kerala is here to stay
The Wednesday Post: Nepali yaks, the perfect weekend, an abandoned village and more.
The first thought that comes to mind when I drive by the pitched canvas tents riverside or hillside is: what a half-hearted experience. The experience offered is mildly lavish – unsettling for seekers of discomfort and for those in search of unsullied luxury. To stir up the competition and present something new to travellers, some enterprising minds came up with the concept of glamping (luxurious camping), and well, it’s stuck.
I may be coining a new word here, but there’s a glamp in Kerala’s ghats that’s been the talk of the hill. Glass cabins facing the setting sun, food fresh off the farm and hosts you want to make best friends with – the search for your next stay in the South should end here.

If movies and pop culture references always made you want to visit Niagara Falls, save the effort of covering the miles and make your way to Chitrakoot Falls. It’s equally impressive and not too far from home.
What makes a perfect weekend getaway? If clear skies that give way to snowy peaks and a town half asleep and refusing to wake up contribute to this question then my response is Chaukori in the Kumaon hills of Uttarakhand. What a blessing.
Scotland is the ‘Coorg of the West’. You won’t find this phrase anywhere else on the internet but there’s a lot of truth in it. Scroll through these properties in the land of coffee and you’ll know why.
“When leaves are a hindrance, plan for a luxurious workation in this hillside resort!” These aren’t my words, but I subscribed to them after reading this lovely piece about a secret resort in the hills.

Destination of the week: Kuldhara
There sits a village with a pin code close to Jaisalmer’s that was apparently abandoned overnight by its residents. It has since become a traveller’s indulgence, visitors who show no interest in contributing to its embracement as a residence. The pictures are nice and the story sticks. You must go.

Today's newsletter was sponsored by this absolute unit of a Himalayan yak in Nepal’s Langtang National Park. Forget the undercut and the mullet and please ask your barber to give you the haircut this yak is flaunting. What a class act.
That's all for this week. I'll see you next Wednesday.
