From Mowgli To Saaya, Relieve Nostalgia In Kabini!
Wednesday Post: Journey through Kabini, Vanshita Khanna’s Cafe Lakeside, Vietnam's quaint Hoi An's allure, ancient Tibet's mystic landscape & knowing Bir beyond paragliding!
Remember those childhood days when we would switch on the TV, watch Mowgli, and keep mumbling the jingle our entire day?
Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling is one of a kind and will never disappear from our lives, not until we die.
While Mowgli was the undeniable protagonist, Bagheera was no less than that. When I first discovered a video of Kabini from Shaaz Jung's Instagram feed just a few years ago, I immediately remembered that I must have seen this one many years before.
It instantly felt like a Deja Vu.
I saw Saaya, the black panther of Kabini in Karnataka, becoming the sensational heartthrob of wildlife enthusiasts in just a matter of months. With time, I learned that Saaya, which translates to 'the shadow' in Hindi, had already been courting Cleopatra, the leopardess of Kabini, for four years, earning them the title of the ‘Eternal Couple’. We can say, it’s roaring love in Kabini right now!
However, it would be absolutely unfair on Kabini's part not to talk about the otherworldly beauties this place inherits. Kabini is one of the few places in India where you can witness one of nature's grandest spectacles—the largest congregation of Asian elephants. It is also home to 250 species of birds and the beautiful Kabini backwaters. Not just the wildlife, this is the ancient home of the indigenous Jenu Kuruba and Kadu Kuruba tribes, still living here and being the naturalists and guides, helping to preserve Kabini.

Destination of the week: Tibet
Om Mani Padme Hum - This ancient common Tibetan chant translates to "the jewel in the lotus." It talks about the potential of enlightenment (the jewel) that exists within the human heart (the lotus) despite the challenges and impurities of life. That is what attracts us to the philosophy of Tibet, isn’t it?
Being the highest region on Earth, Tibet rightfully earns the name of the roof of the world with an elevation of 14,000 ft. The unique landscape of the Tibetan plateau, stretching over 2000 km, and the innumerable festivals celebrating culture and nature, more than 100 festivals a year, make Tibet un-erasable from a traveler's bucket list.
Hop from one monastery to another, try local cuisine, engage in their rituals, strike up a conversation in more than 50 existing Tibetan languages, and experience how time and dates are not strictly observed or even used in Tibetan culture. Isn't that fascinating? Even birth dates are not fixed here. You can only have a fixed year according to your zodiac animal!
