Are the Northern Lights More Violent Than We Think?
Wednesday Post: Witness Northern Lights, Know Why Hong Kong Is The Ultimate Asian Getaway, Get Diwali Ready In Varied Shades, Explore the Largest Mangrove Forest In India
It was through school textbooks that most of us learned about this magical occurrence under the open night skies, far away in the northern hemisphere of the world.
Yes, I am wholeheartedly talking about the most trending travel story on Instagram now - the Northern Lights, the holy grail of sky-watching.
Also nicknamed as aurora borealis, the entire sky looks like a palette of colors bursting into each other to form the most beautiful chaos. Sparkling in their desired tangential direction, did you know that this phenomenon is rather a violent event?
Northern lights happen when a violent interplay between the charged particles of the sun enters Earth’s upper atmosphere with a speed as high as 45 million mph! Our human mind might not be able to fathom the speed but must be able to understand the destruction it could have caused if and only if Earth’s magnetic field hadn't shielded us the way it does now and always.
In a way, we can say, that the chaos indeed looks too surreal for us from Earth’s lap.
While auroras take place the entire year, if you don't want to miss a chance to experience this nature’s wonder, then August to May is the best time to visit your desired location, giving you the perfect window view of northern lights.
I mean can you imagine you are in the middle of Alaska, and the sky shows up its rarest exhibit with its best costume? If you can't imagine then it's time to go and experience it. It isn't just Alaska from where you can see, but there are Greenland, Iceland, Canada, Russia, and Scandinavia as well.

⛯ Destination Of The Week: Sundarbans
Once in a while, a wildlife detox keeps our ties with nature bonded in a friendly affair. What better place to rejuvenate that bond than in the largest mangrove forest in India? Welcome to Sundarbans. Quite appropriate to its name, translating to ‘beautiful forests’, this name comes from the local name of the mangrove species which envelops the entire span of 25,000 square kilometers across India and Bangladesh, Sundari (Scientific name: Heritiera fomes).
This deltaic region, formed by three rivers namely the Ganga, the Brahmaputra, and the Meghna River is where freshwater and seawater mix, this is where land and sea meet and this is again where flora-fauna waves at humans as well.
Sundarban houseboats are the primary conveyance options here and believe me when I say, a stay in these houseboats will change the way you travel. If luck resides with you, you can encounter saltwater crocodiles in their playful spirits and hear the roar of the famous Bengal Tiger while hanging out with their friends on the river banks. What sets Sundarbans apart is every year more than 500 species of birds spend a vacation here. So why can't you?
If you are luckier, then you will be welcomed by the sharks and Gangetic dolphins in the waterway and come across existing mudskippers, fishes that can even climb trees!
More to this, experience the livelihood of locals in Sundarbans, live a day with them, know them a little more, and go back home with a heart full of admiration for those who protect the mangroves hand in hand with nature.
Sundarbans calling you! What’s stopping you?
